Overview
ChatGPT & Claude Limit Tracker is an independent browser extension. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by OpenAI or Anthropic.
Data accessed and purpose
When the extension is enabled on supported websites, it accesses plan usage information that the user’s existing, signed-in ChatGPT/Work/Codex or Claude session makes available. This may include remaining usage percentage, usage-window type, reset time, count of available Work/Codex reset credits, and plan/usage status. It may temporarily access the browser’s session authorization token when making a same-provider request to retrieve usage information. Tokens are used in memory for requests and are not intentionally stored by the extension. The extension also checks limited webpage interface state to position its optional on-page usage display and to identify the ChatGPT Work composer if the user chooses the Work window starter.
Storage
Usage snapshots, provider status, reset times, feature preferences, and Work-starter scheduling details are stored locally in the browser using chrome.storage.local. Data is not uploaded to an independent developer-operated backend.
Network requests and sharing
Usage requests go to the relevant first-party service, such as chatgpt.com or claude.ai, through the signed-in browser session. The extension does not include advertising SDKs or independent analytics/telemetry and does not sell user information. The extension does not intentionally transmit chat messages or conversation contents to the developer.
Optional Work window starter
The public Chrome Web Store version is OFF by default. If enabled and a qualifying Work/Codex reset becomes due, it prepares a Work send action but requires an explicit user confirmation. A confirmed send transmits exactly hello to ChatGPT Work through the user’s account. This uses real Work capacity. If Work mode is not positively identified, the extension does not send the message. This feature does not automatically spend saved, banked, or purchased usage resets. The private unpacked version has different automation defaults and is not the public-store package.
Data retention and control
Users can disable the extension, disable the inline tracker, or uninstall the extension. Uninstalling removes its extension-scoped local storage under normal Chrome behavior. The data already held by the underlying AI providers is governed by those providers’ own policies.
Security, service limits, and changes
The extension does not control or guarantee the availability or correctness of the providers’ reported usage information. Undocumented interfaces can change; a temporary stale or unavailable usage reading is possible.
Chrome Web Store Limited Use
Use of information received from Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Information is used only to provide the extension’s user-facing functionality.
